Phylis R. Tomlinson is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, and Marriage and Family Therapist in Houston, Texas who has worked in public and private education for 30+ years, as both teacher and counselor.  Now she is excitingly launched into full-time private practice.

Her private practice includes work with adults and children.  She helps people live their lives on purpose, creatively and in balance with self and others.  She particularly works with women and men who are on a journey to dis-cover (uncover) their purpose and joy in life.

She practices traditional talk therapy as well as incorporating the creative process using a variety of art materials to assist with self-expression and drawing out inner issues for self-exploration.

She enjoys presenting professional growth training seminars to counselors and other educators.  Teaching adults, whether in teacher or parent education workshops continues to bring variety and joy.

Tomlinson holds an undergraduate degree from James Madison University in Virginia, Early Childhood Certification from Texas Southern University, a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston - University Park, and received Art Therapy training at both the University of Houston - Clear Lake and the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Most recently in July, Tomlinson participated in a Creativity Workship in Barcelona, Spain.  Tomlinson is a Board Certified member of the American Art Therapy Association, South Texas Art Therapy Association and Trinity Episcopal Church, Houston.

Phylis presented "Let's go Full Circle....Using Art in Counseling" at the Texas Counseling Association Professional Growth Conference, November 6-8, 2008 in Houston, Texas. The focus of the presentation was on the use of mandala work in schools.
