Members of the South Texas Art Therapy Association may obtain e-mail addresses in the form of ‘username@stxarttherapy.org’ and 10 MB of e-mail storage space on the server. Contact the webmaster by e-mail: Margaret Wheeler to request your e-mail address. Specify the username you want.

The webmaster will establish an e-mail address for you and provide you with a temporary password. The following procedures are necessary to use your e-mail address:

Establishing a Password

You may change your temporary password to a password of your choice by going to http://webmail.stxarttherapy.org. Click on “Mail Password Requirements”. Develop a proposed password following the rules given on this page. You should also avoid using common dictionary words or proper names within the password.

Go back to the main menu and click on “Mail Administration”. Fill in the form that appears. For “User Account”, delete “postmaster” and enter your username. For “Domain Name”, enter “stxarttherapy.org”. For “Password” enter your temporary password. Click on “Login”.
Another form comes up which allows you to change your password. After filling it out, click on “Modify User”. When a notice of confirmation appears, you may close the screen.

Please note that this same form can be used to forward your e-mail to another address or to send an “on vacation” message to your e-mail correspondents when you plan to be out of town and not answering e-mail.

Accessing Your E-Mail

You can send, receive and store e-mail by either of two methods: webmail (a dedicated internet site) or by configuring your own e-mail program (such as Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, Mac Mail, Eudora, etc.)

Webmail

After logging onto the internet, go to http://webmail.stxarttherapy.org. and click on “Squirrel Mail”. In the screen that appears, enter your full e-mail address under “Name” and enter your password. Click on “Login”. A complete e-mail browser with your e-mail will appear.

Configuring Your E-mail Program

As an alternative or in addition to the Webmail option, you can configure your own e-mail program to receive and send mail with your new address. Open your e-mail program and configure it to add a new e-mail account. In Outlook Express, you will do this by clicking on “Tools” and then “Accounts”. With other e-mail programs, you may find the configuration screens under “Preferences” or “Options” or “Accounts”.

You will need the following information to fill out the “new account” form:

Type of Account: POP3
Incoming Mail Server: pop.stxarttherapy.org
Account Name or Login Name: Enter your full e-mail address.
Password: Enter your stxarttherapy e-mail password.
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.stxarttherapy.org
